Data Loss Source: A former Ceridian employee had data containing the personal information of Innovation Interactive employees including “ID” and bank-account data and then, accidentally posted it on a personal Web site.

Additional Notes:: Ceridian notified New York advertising company last week, after it learned that private data on 150 employees had been posted online. Ceridian said it is offering up to two years of credit protection services for Innovation employees affected by the breach. Ceridian also said that it is not aware of any additional security breaches involving other companies.

Additional Notes:: Caterpillar doesn’t believe that the stolen data was the target of the theft, or that the information has been accessed or misused. However, the company is notifying all individuals whose personal information was contained on the equipment, and will help monitor their credit reports for unusual activity.

Data Loss Source: Employees’ personal information may have been stored on a laptop computer stolen from the San Francisco office of an outside consultant working on University of New Mexico’s human resource and payroll systems.

Affected Individuals: University of New Mexico employees
Geographic Focus: New Mexico
Data contained: Employees’ names, e-mail and home addresses, identity numbers and net pay for a pay period for staff, faculty and a few graduate students
Additional Notes:: University officials learned of the theft Friday from an outside consultant working on UNM’s human resource and payroll systems.

Data Loss Source: Neiman Marcus Group has reported that computer equipment containing sensitive employee information was stolen earlier this month from a third-party pension benefits plan consultant.

Affected Individuals: Current and former Neiman Marcus Group employees and individuals participating in the group’s pension plan.
Geographic Focus: Dallas, TX
Data contained:The records stored on the stolen equipment include names, addresses, birthdates, Social Security numbers and salary information about 160,000 current and former Neiman Marcus Group employees and individuals participating in the group’s pension plan.
Additional Notes:: The company says it has no reason to believe the data stored on the computer was the target of the theft, or that the information has been misused.

Data Loss Source: An organization responsible for managing Broward County’s child welfare system believe a dishonest former employee stole a laptop from the agency’s office. The laptop was used to gather information for background checks, including fingerprint scans.

Affected Individuals: Adoptive and foster-care parents who used ChildNet.
Geographic Focus: Ft. Lauderdale, FL
Data contained:The records contain personal information, including financial and credit data, Social Security numbers, driver’s license data and passport numbers.
Additional Notes:: The agency fired two employees on Wednesday after realizing they had previous criminal records and may have stolen from the agency.
